    Each year, nearly 10,000 children are treated in emergency departments and hospitals for injuries related to lawn mowers. These injuries can be devastating, but they are also preventable. Almost all occur while a parent or relative is driving the lawn mower. The Kohl’s Cares Grow Safe & Healthy Program, a partnership of Kohl’s Cares and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, provides the following safety tips and reminders to help keep children safe from lawn mower injuries.

  • Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin only pediatric hospital in the nation selected to participate in 15-site Alliance for Strong Families and Communities neuroscience initiative

    Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin announced today that it was selected as one of 15 non-profit and non-governmental organization sites in the United States and Canada to participate in “Change in Mind: Apply Neuroscience to Revitalize Communities,” a three-year initiative of the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities, in partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Norlien Foundation. Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin is the only children’s hospital in the nation that was chosen to participate in the Change in Mind initiative.

  • Children’s Community Health Plan exceeds Pay-for-Performance Measures

    The Wisconsin Department of Health Services recently released the results of the 2013 Pay-for-Performance (P4P) program, which it offers to health plans that serve the BadgerCare Plus program. Children’s Community Health Plan (CCHP) is proud to announce that its results met or exceeded performance measure goals defined by the Department for BadgerCare Plus members in southeastern Wisconsin.

    An estimated 3,600 children in the U.S. go to an emergency room each year after nearly drowning. In addition, more than 800 children die due to accidental drowning each year, so understanding water dangers is key to staying safe in and around water for both children and adults. Kohl’s Cares Grow Safe & Healthy, a partnership of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and Kohl’s Cares, promote education and awareness that leads to injury prevention.

  • Hales Corners family travels to Washington, D.C., to advocate for children’s health care

    The Lynch family of Hales Corners, Wis., will join 44 other patients and families from children’s hospitals across the country to speak with members of Congress during the Children’s Hospital Association’s Speak Now for Kids Family Advocacy Day on June 14-15. Cailinn Lynch, 7, and her parents, Kelly and Brian, will be among those sharing their story about lifesaving medical care and discussing the importance of federal policies that provide Cailinn, and millions of other children, access to high-quality pediatric care.

  • Eighteenth Annual Dave & Carole Miracle Marathon raises more than $1.3 million for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin

    Thanks to the generous support of Milwaukee’s Hometown Rock 96.5 WKLH listeners and donors throughout Southeast Wisconsin, The 18th annual Dave & Carole Miracle Marathon for Children’s Hospital raised more than $1.3 million. WKLH broadcast the 36-hour radiothon live from Children’s Hospital May 21-22. The radiothon is Children’s Hospital’s highest grossing fundraiser and has raised more than $22 million since its inception in 1998.

  • PLAY it safe on the playground

    Falls account for more than 75 percent of all playground-related injuries, making them the most common injury. Lack of supervision or improper supervision is associated with approximately 45 percent. The Kohl’s Cares Grow Safe & Healthy program, along with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, has developed an injury-prevention checklist to help keep children safe on the playground.
