Part of the work of healing can lie in spiritual issues that arise. Families often find it helpful to visit with a chaplain when a member of their family is:
- Newly admitted
- Preparing for surgery
- Needing to contact his or her preferred spiritual care support from the community (pastor, rabbi, imam or elder)
- Waiting for test results
- Receiving a new diagnosis
- Undergoing difficult treatment
- Making hard decisions
Families often find themselves asking and wanting to talk about some of the following questions:
- Why my child?
- How do I cope?
- How can I keep going?
- Does anyone care?
- Where is God when it hurts?
- What does it mean?
- Is anyone listening?
Our chaplains are trained to serve in this demanding and challenging environment. They work as part of the pediatric healthcare team, to bring wholeness, health and well-being to patients and families. They work with patients, families and staff members of any faith tradition and no faith tradition. Discover where our places of worship are located and how to contact them.
If your child is in the hospital, you can ask your child’s nurse to place a request for a visit from the Chaplain.
For urgent matters, a chaplain is available 24 hours a day. The Frank G. and Frieda K. Brotz Family Chapel is located on the first floor of the hospital near the main lobby. It is a multi-faith chapel and is open to patients and families for prayer and meditation 24 hours a day. If you wish to enter this space outside of visiting hours when the doors are locked, our Security Team located at the entrance Welcome Center is available to support your request.
