Physician offers an insider’s look at life in Syria

Tarif Bakdash_nb_12116Children’s neurologist Tarif Bakdash, MD, will read from his memoir, “Inside Syria - A Physician's Memoir: My Life as a Child, a Student & an MD in an Era of War” on Thursday, Feb. 4, 1-2 p.m. at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Health Resources Center Auditorium (room H1400). The event is open to Children’s and MCW physicians, staff and students, as well as interested community members.

Born and raised in Syria, Dr. Bakdash’s book recounts amazing tales from his storied life. He attended school with Bashar al-Assad, worked with Bashar’s wife Asma, butted heads with Ba ath Party bureaucrats and lost friends to anti-Islamic purges. After spending years in the United States, Dr. Bakdash returned to his homeland intent on reforming the system from within.

Don’t miss this rare chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at one of today’s most compelling issues.
