Diagnosing and treating eosinophilic gastroenteritis
If the doctor suspects eosinophilic gastroenteritis based on your child’s medical history and risk factors, the doctor will use an endoscopy<LINK > and biopsy<LINK > to look for signs of eosinophilic gastroenteritis.
Treatment typically involves steroid medications and/or diet changes. Your child’s doctor may recommend an elimination diet (which involves eliminating potentially problematic foods and then adding them back one at a time) to determine which foods are triggering your child’s abnormal immune reaction. Some children may require enteral nutrition and tube feeding to maximize nutrition and growth.
